Our special breast augmentation surgery package
All Cosmetic Surgery Travel clients receive a mammogram
and an ultrasound prior to any breast surgery. This
is included in the cost of the surgery package.
Most women who travel to Subic for breast surgery
want a breast augmentation. This may be to increase the size of their
breasts or to provide shape when most of the mass of the breasts has
been lost.
Some women in their 40's who have breast fed their
children are surprised to be told that only implants won’t provide
their former pre-babies rounded and shapely breasts. They discover that
they actually need a breast lift as well as an augmentation to give
them the silhouette they want. This is also the case with women who
have experienced significant loss of weight.
Women whose breasts are irregularly shaped or unevenly
sized can benefit from implants alone or restored with a combination
of implants, nipple repositioning and/or a breast lift. Women whose
breasts have been depleted can undergo a breast restoration.
The cost of breast reduction surgery is often reimbursed
by medical insurers if it is demonstrated that the breast size poses
health concerns.
Some women write to us asking about liposuction
for large breasts. We don’t schedule nor encourage this procedure.
Breasts are made largely of breast tissue, with larger breasts having
a greater proportion of fat. A liposuction procedure that will leave
breast tissue undamaged while removing fat cells has yet to be found
medically viable.
Also, some women write to us because they want their
fat transferred into their breasts. We don’t schedule or support
this procedure either. Surgeons we know make the case that the calcified
residual of the transferred fat cells, as they die out, can mask cancer
cells during a routine mammogram or ultrasound. We think that's an excellent
reason not to consider fat transfer into breast tissue.
Breast restoration
Breast restoration is sometimes needed when a man
or woman has lost significant weight in the upper portion of his or
her body. For a woman, breast restoration or "renewal" often
combines a breast lift with breast augmentation and nipple reconstruction.
For a man, breast restoration may include repositioning of the nipple,
breast tissue reduction and liposuction.
In Subic, we are fortunate in having the services
of an experienced breast reconstruction surgeon to perform highly specialized
tram flap restoration for women who have had a radical mastectomy.
Breast lift
Mastopexy
Breasts often lose their shape and firmness and
begin to sag as a woman ages and her skin loses its elasticity and the
supporting muscle tissue droops from gravity. The breast lift, or mastopexy,
is a surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts.
A "lift" is designed to tighten your skin
and perk up your breasts without affecting their size. Breasts of any
size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in heavy breasts.
A breast lift is sometimes combined with breast augmentation.
Breast lifting techniques vary, but the most common
procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision following the natural contour
of the breast. Excess skin is removed and the nipple and areola are
moved to a higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is brought
down and together to reshape the breast. Stitches are usually located
around the areola, in a vertical line extending downwards from the nipple
area, and along the lower crease of the breast.
Patients may feel some pain for the first couple
of days after surgery. Bandages are usually removed a day or two after
surgery, however patients will need to wear a surgical bra for several
weeks, until the swelling and bruising subside. Stitches are removed
in one to three weeks.
Some patients may experience random, shooting pains
for the first few months after surgery. Some temporary loss of feeling
in the nipples and breast skin.
Incision lines will be permanently visible but should
fade over time.
Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase
or enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. This augmentation
is achieved by surgically placing a saline or silicone gel-filled implant
in each breast to push the breast tissue forward.
Implants vary in shape, size, and texture and are
surgically inserted into the body. Most women choose implants made of
the new cohesive silicone gel. They are generally considered safe and
some manufactured brands have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration. Some physicians suggest that saline-filled implants
are preferred over silicone gel implants for very athletic women.
To insert the implant, the physician lifts the breast
tissue and creates a pocket for the implant either behind the muscle
or behind the breast tissue. Sometimes an endoscope is used. The incision
through which the implant is inserted is usually under the arm or within
the lower fold of the breast. Occasionally, physicians may insert the
implant at the nipple or through the belly button.
General anesthesia is almost always used with breast
augmentation surgery, especially for placements under the muscle. This
allows the patient to sleep through the ordeal. Local anesthesia with
sedation may sometimes be used for an over the muscle placement.
The surgery takes between one and three hours depending
on the placement of the implant and the skill and experience of the
surgeon.
After surgery, patients can expect a variety of
pains and sensations. These symptoms are only temporary. Some discomforts
may pass within days while others might take a few weeks.
Although most patients are happy with the results
of their breast augmentation surgery, there are a small number of women
who are not. Wrinkling, asymmetry, shifting, incorrect size, unanticipated
shape, implant palpability, or scar deformity are some of the causes
of cosmetic dissatisfaction.
