Inlay and onlay
Inlay or onlay is often used to repair the damage that involve over
the biting surface of a tooth rather than using simple filling or
crown. Inlay or onlay can be porcelain, gold, or composite resin cast
sections that are bonded to the damaged area of a tooth.
Inlay is similar to the fillings and lie inside
the cusp tips of the tooth; onlay is a more extensive reconstruction
that covers one or more cusps of a tooth.
We use gold or Empress porcelain inlays/onlays.
Porcelain is now becoming the material of choice
because of its strength and potential to match the natural color of
your tooth.
Duration: 1-2 weeks
Number of visits: 2-3 visits
Dental Veneer
Dental veneer is a thin covering of porcelain or composite over the
enamel of a tooth.
Veneers are common for teeth that are too small, too big, or have
uneven surfaces. It is very useful for people to have cosmetic improvements
(i.e.: shade, shape, lip support, cheek support, etc.).
Veneers are recommended for imperfect teeth, either
oddly shaped teeth, some malpositioned teeth, chipped teeth, crooked
teeth, teeth with small holes in them, or an inappropriate sized tooth.
Veneers solve such irregularities and create a durable and pleasing
smile.
We use Empress type of all-ceramic veneer which
is long lasting and has high aesthetic value. It is also hardly distinguishable
from natural dentition. Also you can select the desired level of teeth
colour as you wish.
Duration: 1-2 weeks
Number of visits: 2-3 visits
BriteSmile Tooth Whitening
BriteSmile is the best way to safely whiten your teeth with the most
advanced technology available in tooth whitening today.
The BriteSmile Whitening System
BriteSmile has revolutionized tooth whitening with the state-of-the-art
technology that is safe and effective. BriteSmile is gentle. There's
no laser, no heat, and no scraping. Our whitening system uses only
two simple elements: gel and light.
The BriteSmile Light
The patented BriteSmile light is not a laser. It's a specially designed
lamp that shines a gentle, blue light on your teeth. It works in tandem
with our proprietary whitening gel to accelerate the whitening process.
This light has been clinically proven safe for tooth enamel as well
as skin, gums, and other soft tissues. It emits virtually no heat
and no harmful UV (ultraviolet) light. Our lamps are uniquely shaped
to illuminate and whiten all "smile line" teeth (top and
bottom) at the same time, ensuring natural and uniform results.
The BriteSmile Whitening Gel
The BriteSmile light is used in combination with our patented whitening
gel, which has been optimized for patient safety and maximum results.
While other whitening gels contain as much as 35%-50% hydrogen peroxide,
BriteSmile's proprietary gel contains only 15% peroxide and is buffered
at a near-neutral pH value that is compatible with tooth enamel. The
gel also contains other ingredients such as glycerin and highly purified
water to prevent tooth dehydration and to further ensure safety. The
gel is specifically engineered to respond to the blue wavelengths
of our light system. When the light illuminates the gel, it activates
and safely accelerates the whitening process, achieving amazing results
in just one hour.
The BriteSmile teeth-whitening system is protected by numerous patents
and therefore only available at BriteSmile whitening spas and the
dental offices of trained BriteSmile professionals.
Suitability of Your Case for Laser Tooth Whitening:
Your suitability as a viable candidate for tooth whitening will be
determined during the consultation and oral examination process. Not
all people are qualified candidates for the procedure. If Laser Tooth
Whitening is deemed not appropriate for you, other appropriate treatment
options will be proposed.
Treatment Expectation upon Completion:
Significant whitening can be achieved in most cases, but the level
of whiteness achieved varies for each patient. People with yellowish
brown teeth tend to whiten faster and more fully than people with
grayish to grayish brown shaded teeth. There is no definitive way
to predict how light your teeth will become. Your dentist will provide
you with guidance as to the level of whiteness your individual situation
may achieve.
Alternative Treatment Options:
While the laser tooth whitening is by far the fastest, most effective
means (both in terms of results and speed) for most people to whiten
their teeth, there are other options available to you for whitening
teeth especially for people with dark grey or dark brown color teeth.
These options are:
Porcelain/Composite Veneers
Porcelain Crown
Combination with Gel/Tray System
Dentures
Dentures are removable appliances that are used to replace missing
teeth.
Normally they are made of acrylic resin but can also be incorporated
into metal or porcelain for additional structural support.
There are two main types of dentures: Complete/Full Dentures and Partial
Dentures. Full dentures are used to replace the upper and lower arches
while no teeth remain.
Dentures aid patients in chewing food, smiling,
swallowing, restoring esthetics, supporting facial soft tissues, cheeks
and lips. It also helps to reestablish the vertical dimension of the
patient’s bite which is the distance between the chin and nose.
In addition dentures rid you of pronunciation problems caused by missing
teeth.
Duration: approx: 4 weeks
Number of visits: 5-6 visits
Dental implant / Tooth Implant
Dental implants are a recent technology used for
replacing missing teeth with a most natural look.
The dental implant is a titanium screw that is surgically placed in
the jaw. This implant eventually fuses with the bone around the jaw
about two to six months after surgery. These implants can then be
used to anchor crowns, bridges and dentures.
As the illustration to the left shows, the dental implant goes into
the jaw exactly like a natural tooth root.
Dental crowns can be made to cover the implant post. Many people who
have implants for a comfortable and cosmetic fit use porcelain fused
to gold crowns.
This is the "high tech" solution and the most natural replacement
to replace the lost tooth/teeth without harming the remaining teeth
and soft tissue.
Patients can receive several benefits from doing
the dental implant. Ideal results include restoration of normal appearance
of the missing tooth/teeth. Patients can achieve considerable confidence
during eating and talking. Also patients can enjoy the long term safety
of replacing their lost teeth with dental implant.
Range of solutions: Preoperative evaluation
Dental implant is not suitable for everyone. Patients
are evaluated at a consultation appointment with respect to their
jaw size, bone volume, quality and quantity of bone, also the condition
of the opposing dentition. The anatomy of the front of the lower jaw
is studied by using x-rays taken at varying angles. This evaluation
is to ensure suitability for the tooth implant as the components for
the treatment are all precision made prefabricated components. Therefore
the size and shape of the jaw must comply with established criteria.
Treatment procedures
The first step is the placement of titanium implants
to replace the lost teeth. These implants will remain covered underneath
the gum for approximately 3-6 months for lower teeth and 6 months
for upper teeth. During this time, the implants should fuse to the
bone.
The second step of the procedure involves uncovering
the implants and attaching a post to each implant. This completes
the foundation on which the new teeth will be placed. In some instances,
the surgeon may decide to place the posts at the time of surgery.
The final step is the placement of new teeth by
the dentist. With techniques that ensure optimal size, shape, colour
and fit, the replacement teeth should blend with the patient’s
facial characteristics while providing support needed for natural
appearance.
What causes tooth discoloration?
There are many causes. The most common include aging, consumption
of coffee, tea, colas and smoking.
Why bleach your teeth?
Whitening has increased in popularity in recent years as yellowed
teeth are becoming less and less acceptable, both socially and professionally. Many
people do it to boost their self image and self esteem. People are
drawn to your smile. A whiter grin can give you extra confidence or
boost those first impressions.
Does it work on Caps, Crowns, Veneers, Non-vital tooth?
Caps, crowns, veneers and non-vital tooth cannot be whitened by laser.
Therefore, they must be matched to the shade of your teeth after whitening.
Previous white fillings in front teeth may need to be redone.
How long will it last?
Non-smokers who don’t drink coffee or tea often see little or
no change for up to five years. But your own long-term results will
depend on your habits and the specific foods you eat. Based on those
variables, some patients may require a "touch-up" treatment
at regular intervals.
Is there any discomfort?
There is little, if any. Less than 10% of patients might feel an increased
sensitivity to cold, heat, or pressure during the whitening process.
Sensitivity ends a day or two after the treatment is completed.
Will whitening damage my teeth?
Not at all. The whitening process will not effect your enamel, tooth
structure, bonding or restorations. Whitening acts only on the molecules
that carry the discoloration.
What should I do after Laser Tooth Whitening?
Tooth colour will continue to get lighter for about one week after
treatment.
Avoid smoking, drinking tea, coffee or red wine within the first 48
hours for the best result.
Tooth sensitivity can be subsided by mild analgesic.
A gradual darkening of teeth may happen as time passes. This will
depend on personal habits and diet such as smoking, drinking coffee,
tea or red wine etc. Proper oral hygiene care can generally avoid
diminished whitening results.
Who can benefit from Dental Implants?
Those people who have missing teeth from decay, disease or injury
may be ideal candidates for implants. A qualified dentist prior to
the procedure for any contraindications should evaluate those interested.
Are there any age-related problems?
Generally if you are healthy enough to have teeth extracted you are
likely able to have implants. Your dentist will evaluate you to determine
if any rare chronic diseases will prevent you from having implants.
How will the new teeth look?
With professional and modern techniques, customers are very satisfied
with the comfortable fit, natural look and ease of use with dental
implants.
Are their advantages to implants over bridges
and crowns?
• Enhanced look: Dental implants can improve facial appearance.
They stop the process of jawbone and facial shrinkage caused by missing
teeth.
• Maintained natural teeth: Traditional bridge and denture construction
requires healthy adjacent teeth for anchoring points. Implants often
eliminate the need to change healthy teeth.
• Permanent solution: No worries about loose dentures or bridgework
coming apart. Normally implants last a lifetime.
How much do implants cost?
The number of teeth replaced and the number of implants required are
factors that affect costs for dental implants. In addition, if procedures
are required to support implants, this may increase fees as well.
A dental surgeon can give you a good estimate of costs after a complete
examination.
How will dental implants affect my life?
Your dental implants look, feel and work like your natural teeth.
You will be able to eat, drink as before. You may have improved confidence
and self-esteem as a result of your improved look.
Will I be able to chew the same?
Yes. After a brief adaptation period, your ability to chew is the
same as it was.
How much time is required for an implant placement?
The time factor can vary according to the treatment options, number
of teeth replaced, implants required and overall health of the patient.
There are 2 procedures now for implants. The traditional treatment
is done in two sessions separated by a 3-month healing period. A new
single session approach is suitable for many patients and cuts the
time factor considerably. Your dentist will assist in determining
the proper procedure option.
Will the procedure be painful?
As with most surgeries, some patients may have pain. Sedation and
anesthesia will make the procedure itself comfortable for you. Many
are surprised at how the procedure was less painful than anticipated.
The dentist can prescribe medicine to relieve discomfort following
the procedure. You may ask the dentist to refer you to someone who
had the procedure for his or her personal feedback.
How will I feel after the treatment?
Normally there is a small amount of bruising and swelling that is
usually relieved with medication. Most patients are able to work the
next day.
How will I care for my implants?
Care of your implants is the same as for your natural teeth. Daily
brushing and flossing followed by regular 6-month dental visits are
the best routine.
