What is the quality and standard of medical care in Subic Bay?

TotalMED Subic Ambulatory and Multispecialty Center is a modern, state-of-the-art medical facility with advanced equipment and highly trained and accredited medical and non medical personnel. Many of our physicians have trained in the US and in other countries such as Canada and Europe and are board certified. Many have practiced medicine for more than 20 years. The quality of care that you will receive will be comparable, if not better than many hospitals in your home town.

How are you able to offer such low prices?

The answer is simple:

1. The cost of living and wages are lower in Subic Bay compared to UK, USA or Australia.
2. Subic Bay is a Freeport and thus there is NO TAX on treatments
3. The great exchange rate means that our prices are naturally less expensive than home.
4. Since there are very rare malpractice cases in the Philippines, physicians and surgeons do not add on an offsetting malpractice or legal premium to their charges.

What other benefits are there?

Apart from the lower cost and comparable standard of care and professionalism, there is no waiting such as in UK or Canada or the US.

What are the pre and post surgery options for leisure and sightseeing?

You may go golfing, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, beachcombing or whale watching. You can join a jungle trek. There are many nightime and daytime tours which you can join. Because Subic is a Freeport, you can go duty free shopping to your heart’s content. Or you can simply loll around the pool or relax on the beach.

What if something goes wrong?

We have taken great pains to ensure that everything goes right with your treatment and stay. Your personal assistant will be on call for you 24/7 during your entire stay. In addition, you will be given a cell phone to make sure that we are always within a phone call’s reach. You will have total and complete access to your physicians and assistant at all times.

What if I need to change plans?

After your consultation with your surgeon, you or your surgeon may have changes or modifications to the original treatments that you originally agreed on. In this case, we will notify you of the new prices for the treatments you agreed on with the surgeon. You must make payments for all surgical and dentistry treatments before being treated. We recommend credit card payment for simplicity and convenience. If you decide to cancel your treatment with the surgeon or dentist, you will not be required to pay any amount, however, your accommodation and/or flights previously booked and paid for will not be refunded.

What happens in the case of a complication with the treatments?

We have a proven formula to ensure great quality results and happy clients. Although all types of surgery do carry risks - the risk of complications is no higher than if you had the procedure or treatment at home. In fact, we likely have a higher percentage of satisfied clients than clinics at your hometown, as we take every precaution to make sure that complications do not arise in the first place. However, you must be aware that surgical results differ from person to person, depending on many factors eg. age, medical history and health etc. You may experience results that are different from what you expected. You should discuss and agree on your expectations with the surgeon before surgery. If you have any concerns while you are on holiday, the surgeon is on hand to discuss and treat any side effects or complications. When you book, we give you a form to read and sign which covers all the possible side effects and complications that may occur in very rare cases. You must also discuss and be thoroughly aware of the risks with the surgeon.

Do I have to undergo general anesthesia?

This will depend on the type of surgery. We will advise you during the initial consultations if you will require local or general anesthesia.

Abdominoplasty and liposuction

Q: I am interested in an abdominoplasty operation and liposuction procedures. Could you please give me some information?

A: As the need for an abdominoplasty operation (tummy tuck) and liposuction varies from person to person, we would like to suggest that you send us your photograph and details of you height (cm.), weight (kg.), waist measurement (cm.), age, and gender, along with past history of operations / procedures carried out in the abdominal area, if any. This way our specialist will be able to advise you of the best way to achieve your ideal weight and shape.

Q: Is liposuction a risky procedure?

A: Every surgical procedure has risks: internal bleeding and infection. In liposuction, both can be prevented by a pre-surgery blood check and performing the operation in strictly sterile procedures. Local tumescent anesthesia also greatly reduces complications. Now tumescent liposuction is one of the safest cosmetic surgical procedures. A good surgeon will also help reduce risks. Ask him/her about his/her training and past experiences.

Q: What is the necessary information a person who would like to get liposuction done should know?

A: A person who would like to get liposuction done will have to stop anti-platelet medicine 10 days before the surgery. If you are over 40 years old, an EKG test, chest X-ray, and complete blood count check will be required.

About Subic

Q: Can TMSH arrange specific tour excursions for patients after their surgery?

A: Our experience in working closely with Tottalhas given us the knowledge that each patient is different in his needs and limitations. We are confident that we, in close co-operation with the TottalMED, will be able to arrange suitable tour excursions for patients recovering after their surgery.

Q: What type of clothing should I prepare?

A: Subic has a tropical climate, so the weather is warm throughout the year. Clothing that you should bring should be T-shirts, short-sleeved shirts, shorts, pants (in case you want to go somewhere a bit “dressy”), swimsuits, and sandals. And don’t forget the sun block.

Q: What kind of electrical appliances can I use in Subic?

A: The electricity current in the Philippines is 220 volts, so if you have to bring electrical appliances from the UK or the USA, an adaptor is advised, or you could buy one here in Subic.

COSMETIC SURGERY

What happens after my medical procedure?

Each patient’s needs are unique, and depend on the procedure you have. You will decide with your doctor whether to overnight at a hospital or its aftercare facility, or to return to your hotel where you will receive continuing support from your Cosmetic Surgery Travel personal assistant, who will be available 24 hours a day.

How will I communicate with my Cosmetic Surgery Travel personal assistant and with my family back home?

Cosmetic Surgery Travel will supply a prepaid cell phone for your personal use in the Philippines, and we will arrange prepaid long distance telephone service according to your situation.

What kind of hospital accommodation can I expect?

Should your doctor advise you to stay overnight in the hospital or its aftercare facility, you will receive a well-appointed private room with standard deluxe services and your choice of meals and cuisines. Otherwise you will recuperate in the luxurious comfort of a five-star hotel or boutique hotel.

What if I have complications after I return home?

We always recommend that your local doctor be involved in your decision to have your procedure performed abroad. We also urge you to stay in Thailand for at least a week after your surgery. Should a complication be caused by negligence in any way on the part of the surgeon or hospital, Cosmetic Surgery Travel will, at its expense, arrange for a return visit to Thailand.

Do many people book their procedures over the Internet?

More than 10,000 patients booked medical procedures in Philippine hospitals and clinics on the Internet in 2003. Worldwide, medical travel is growing rapidly and Thailand has become one of the major world centers attracting people from all corners of the world to its top-quality surgical and medical facilities.!

What are the most common procedures requested by patients from abroad?

Philippines is very well known internationally as a pioneer in cosmetic surgery, and that is the most popular. But increasingly, as healthcare costs continue to rise, and doctors and hospitals become overextended, people come here for orthopedic surgery such as hip replacements and knee repair, and for executive health check-ups. They also come for high quality inexpensive dental work and eye surgery.

How do I prepare for travel to the Philippines?

If you need assistance in booking your air travel from home, please let us know. When you arrive in the Philippines, a TotalMED personal assistant will meet you at the airport, take you by private car to your hotel, and accompany you to your consultation and surgery. Manila has tropical climate year-round, so light summer clothing and beachwear is best. Bring a sweater or wrap for over-air conditioned venues. Anything you don’t bring, you can buy, since the Philippines is terrific for shopping. ATM locations are plentiful and convenient. You may want to check with your bank at home what their international charges are.

What kind of cosmetic procedures are available in the Philippines?

Just about every cosmetic surgical procedure is available in the Philippines. As is just about every non-surgical procedure. Americans benefit from having available not only the latest procedures offered in the United States, but also the latest procedures from Europe.
